in a world of imperfections.”
Tinca Veerman
Tinca Veerman-Pekelharing, born in the south of the Netherlands, has been based in Amsterdam since 1993.
Over the years, she has explored various art styles and developed a distinctive artistic expression that is uniquely her own.
Her art plays with abstraction, revealing the fine line between the raw and the refined. It dares you to explore abstraction and association, with each piece unfolding in layers of different perspectives. As she describes it, it’s an attempt to capture beauty within chaos, inspired by the world around her. Tinca compels the viewer to pause, to unravel the construction, and to challenge both the work and their own perception of truth.
Tinca doesn’t adhere to a single style. She experiments with various materials such as fabric, wax, and found objects, shaping them into new forms. Throughout her work, there’s a consistent focus on the interplay between abstraction and association, a thread that ties everything together.
In an ever-changing world full of imperfections, where helplessness and emotion go hand in hand, she plays with colors, sounds and feelings in her own way, attempting to capture both the good and the bad, the ugly and the beautiful, side by side on paper.
From a young age, Tinca used to spend every weekend sailing with her family. She was attracted by the vast waters and the infinite horizon along the Dutch coast. Sailing and being on or in the water gave her an almost tangible feeling of complete freedom. This period of time was like an extended playground of her youth, a precious feeling that isn’t always a given. This profound connection to water and the surrounding nature continues to serve as a powerful source of inspiration for much of her work. The feeling of freedom, seamlessly intertwined with an instinctive bond to the world around her, shapes her creative vision to this day.
Since 2019, she has increasingly embraced larger-scale works and intensified her use of color. The versatility of her art reflects her constant drive to challenge herself and continue evolving.
